Someone Somewhere is The Most Sustainable Gift This Holiday

While so many of us will be away from our families this Holiday season, the hunt for the perfect gift is more important than ever. In my family this year, we’ve decided that all of our gifts to each other will be from sustainable or local organizations to support small businesses during this challenging time. Even if we can’t celebrate together, we can still celebrate each other by supporting those that do good in our community, and the world. One company that’s definitely on my shopping list this year is Someone Somewhere. I’ve written about the company before (you can find the article here), but this brand deserves being mentioned more than once.

Founded by Antonio Nuno and Fatima Alvarez, Someone Somewhere works with 180 artisans in five of Mexico’s poorest states including Hidalgo, Oaxaca, Puebla, Chiapas, and Estado de Mexico to handmake apparel and bags for both men and women. Using artisanal techniques like Chicotillo Loom, Hand Embroidery, Pepenado, and Waist Loom, Someone, Somewhere is creating beautiful, sustainable pieces and developing micro-economies at the same time. As 98% of the artisans are women, Someone Somewhere “seek(s) to connect you with the thousands of artisans who live in vulnerable conditions to boost their development and contribute to their well-being…Through fair trade with artisan communities, we can contribute to the development and preservation of their traditions. The way we do it is through products that you can use in your day to day, creating a direct link between you and the talented artisans of Mexico.”

Someone Somewhere’s latest piece for both men and women, and the item on my list for my family members is their Lifeproof Pullover. It’s waterproof, odor proof and stylish -and did I mention it rolls up super tiny in your suitcase so it’s perfect to throw in when we are able to travel again, and to cozy up in now as we head into winter! This super-soft sweatshirt has two layers of coating: (1) Interior = odor-proof protection so you can wear it for a full week without washing! (2) Exterior = water-proof coating that avoids any water-based substance penetrating the fabric, preventing stains-even WINE!

The Lifeproof Pullover comes in three colors, gray, navy and a festive deer pattern in sizes XS-XL! For only $59 you can support local artisans in impoverished communities in Mexico, and receive a stylish pullover that’s spill-proof and odor-proof in the process! I already grabbed the navy pullover for myself and let me just say it’s all I’ve been wearing as I work remote-and I’m def gonna be grabbing some for my family members as well! What better way to celebrate the Holiday season after the wild year we’ve had, than with a handmade gift from Someone Somewhere?! To grab your pullover, head to their website here!
