“After this year—so intense, so depressing—I would like to come back to the fashion that started my career: the playfulness that attracted me and my generation to fashion, and transform the Dior codes through this attitude” designer Maria Grazia Chiuri said in a statement to Vogue about her latest Pre-Fall 2021 Collection for Christian Dior. Chiuri’s fashion pedigree includes some of the most famous fashion houses in the world, like Fendi from 1989-1999, Valentino from 1999-2015 and now Dior, a position she received in 2016 (and the first female in Dior’s 70 year history). Chiuri has always been regarded as brilliant, developing the now iconic baguette bag for Fendi, managing the success of Valentino’s diffusion line Red Valentino, and personally receiving awards for her Haute Couture Collections with Valentino from the CFDA. Her years at Dior has also proved to be incredibly successful and controversial, Chiuri is not afraid to break barriers and reimagine the iconic Parisian House of Christian Dior, and her latest collection is no different.
Featuring silver metallic jackets, neon sheer-lace skirts, sequin bombers, animal prints and leather, Chiuri left nothing out when it came to designing the latest collection that launched today. In speaking about her appointment as Artistic Director at Dior in 2016 Chiruri said, “I measure the tremendous responsibility of being the first woman in charge of the creation in a house so deeply rooted in the pure expression of femininity. The endless wealth of its heritage continues to be a constant source of inspiration for fashion, and I cannot wait to express my own vision.” We’re in love with this latest ode to pop, mod, fun and fresh looks for Christian Dior, and I’ve rounded up my favorites from the collection, check it out below!
