Blue may be the quintessential staple of nautical style, but nothing says summer like adding a little red and white to the mix. Not only does it evoke Fourth of July memories, but the combo is actually a classic seafaring look that goes back hundreds of years. Obviously, it's a timeless classic. Add in a little linen and really add a refined edge to your summer sailing look that keeps you cool and looking good. In this case we chose a jacket, but changing any one article of clothing will do (as long as you don't go all linen because that changes things from nautical chic to yoga retreat).

Hats! Hats! Hats! Now that it's again fashionable for men to wear hats other than baseball caps, this is the perfect piece of street style that can easily translate to your seafaring adventures. Woven fedoras are especially great for their breathability, shading and style points.

Pastel colors have long been associated with Spring and Easter. However, if you really want to stand out and be noticed on your next sunset cruise in the bay, try wearing pastel colors. The colors are cool and perfect for being in the sun. Try combining a pale yellow with a light blue or light orange for a subtle cool vibe that will get you noticed.

Stripes and denim are the perfect combination both on and off the water. Stripes have long since been a staple on deck, but a pair of light-weight jeans make the perfect complement. Not only are they already blue, but they're great for keeping you warm in those cool evening sea breezes on the return trip back to the dock.

Cut-off shorts and deck shoes...We know at first it sounds like Huckleberry Finn meets Country Club, but it really does work. Pairing a pair of cut-off shorts and a light-weight button-up shirt or polo creates a casual cool that looks both effortless and stylish. Add in a pair deck shoes and your cut-offs will be elevated into the realm of seaworthy preppy attire.
