Chanel invited audiences around the world to virtually view their latest collection, Pre-Fall 2021 at the Chateau des Dames outside of Paris on Thursday. Featuring 67 looks Virginie Viard’s Metiers d’Art Collection was inspired by styles of the 1930s and the boldness of French Queen, Catherine de Medici in the 1500s, as well as Karl Lagerfeld’s 1983 collection for Chloé that featured crystal water sprays. While Chanel’s digital Haute Couture Collection that premiered over the summer was a throwback to the 80’s with big ball gowns, bright colors, and shoulder pads, the latest Metiers d’Art Collection seems to have too much inspiration, and too little of the ‘wow factor’ that usually comes from Chanel’s runway shows. Elements like pink, gray and blue sheen footless tights reminiscent of Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl, a denim dress (??) and metallic checkerboard mini skirts seemed to be the worst from the show; with a beautiful white two-piece tweed outfit, stunning black and white tulle evening gowns, and a houndstooth coat that’s incredible being some of the best looks.
