continues to sizzle this season as it re-introduces sexy to the runway; but not in its traditionally cheeky methods. This year, models strut the runway in refined and conservative pieces with high necks, mono-kinis and much less thong and string bikinis.

SWIMMIAMI kicked off the week at the W Hotel where they built a runway over the water. Besides introducing OMG Miami Swimwear and Kay & Elle Swim, they spiced up the night with Reggaeton Artist Vikina Lopez and Khaled protege’ Kent Jones performing his #1 hit song “Don’t Mind” then wowed by closing their runway with no other than Roberto Cavalli Swim. But this evening truly belonged to OMG – the designers pieces brought an elegance to the collection featured bringing a true MIAMI feeling of poolside tanning and not just a bikini that is tucked far into your panty drawer as a last resort; so get your Glam On!

This same venue continued showcasing designers such as Kaoh’s and Robb and Lulu amongst several other designer throughout the week – with KAOH’s making waves as a true crowd and celebrity favorite at the venue. Kaoh’s designer Ali Hoffman ensured to focus on featuring various reversible designs, plunging necklines, and crop tops. However, the main win this season was being able to feature variations of coverage to be able to appeal to a wider audience. This, however, is not the only reason why KAOHS is being the talk this fashion season. They did something different this year that you will appreciate as much as we did. Yes, their show featured models with perfect tans and abs that make us all want to run back to the gym and start a diet, but the models they showcased were by far the best this entire season. They were flirty, fun, tanned, built and just beautiful. But they were not your traditional 6ft tall size 0-2 models, and we appreciated the curves. We also can confidently say that they had the best strut on the catwalk – so much we dare to say they walked better than models from NY and LA (sorry guys!). This allowed spectators to truly be able to relate to the garments being showcased – so there’s no doubt that they will be having a strong season this year; after all, they got our vote and our wallets for sure!

A few blocks down we caught FUNKSHION showcasing emerging designers. Funkshion took over several venues from NAUTILUS Hotel and their very own pop-up on the main street. From the Bold prints and Lively colors from the CUBAN designer to mesh and sheer pieces that featured open cut shoulders from Luli Fama. But size was not to matter for the Funkshion productions as Brazilian designer Sinesia Karol, who also drew inspiration from her latin culture, made a point to note that “It doesn’t matter what size you are…I want you to feel good about your body” – so embrace your curves; and did she.

More showcases came from an Australian designer with a showcasing from the soul of a resort collection with an international twist featuring energy and love of Africa. And we all can agree that swim week would not be what it is without a splash from the past with Frankies Bikini paying homage to the 70’s as models opened their show behind a multi-colored billboard version of a “shagging-wagon.” LA would be proud to how many of these bikini’s in their psychedelic patterns were being paired back to colorful blue and pink denim (guess pop-colored jeans are making a comeback!). But the 70’s ambiance would not have been complete had it not been for the daisies in the hair and the posters that read “Free the Nipple” and “We Rise By Lifting Others” – I guess we stick to #believeMiami.

Other shows in partnership with Funkshion were hosted by Art Hearts Fashion where you could spot local favorites like Koco Blaq, Mister Triple X, and L.A.M.B Sunglasses by Gwen Stefani.

All in all, with various production houses celebrating Miami Swim we were able to obtain different vibes from one platform to the next making every day a true MIAMI SWIM CELEBRATION. So, if you haven’t gotten your bikini this season, we recommend you start reaching out to these designers and mention how you saw them first at SWIM WEEK MIAMI.
