Third day at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin:
A/W 2015 Glaw, Ioana Ciolacu, Rike Feurstein, Esther Perbandt

by Louann “Emmalynn” von Brochwitz

Oh, there were quite a few noteworthy moments on day three at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin… The fashion industry is a strange, but marvelous world! The big surprise was the designer Esther Perbandt with her surreal runway show and edgy models…

Glaw

This seasons collection of brightly colored shapes and luxe fabrics were beautifully combined with the discerning urban women  in mind.  The wedding gown is a perfect example of how the young design duo at GLAW strive to juxtapose female power and fragility in their designs.

Conceptual clothing at it’s best mixed with strong shapes and imaginative touches. Ioana Ciolacu creates structural experiments: She explores the liaison between the fluid garment construction and the solid nature of architecture. Above all, her ready-to-wear collections are sustainable and environment friendly.

Rike Feurstein

Houndstooth’s polished reputation is a bit tarnished (in a good way!) in the hands of Rike Feurstein.  The designer has a knack for blending unusual colors and patterns with traditional design cues, very city suave. Debuting his line for dogs on the runway this season, added a touch of masculine fun to the show.

My tendancies are always toward the advant-garde aspects of design and Esther Perbandt, exceeded by expections.  The pairing of deconstructed cuts with reliable design cues made for a truly inspiring collection.  The models, some celebrity, some older and some young, dragging large poles with chalk over a black runway added an unexpected layer of delibrate urgency to the design. I left this show feeling inspired… very well done!

Louann [Emmalynn] von Brochwitz

Louann von Brochwitz [also known as Emmalynn] is the enfant terrible in the fashion industry: She is a self-proclaimed Dadaist (I am ugliness in beauty and I am nonsense in sense) and the only High Fashion Contortion Model. As her talent for creating iconic imagery grew, Louann’s passion for mathematics became an academic achievement few can equal: She is currently working on her Ph.D. in mathematics in California and above all she is also creative directing vanguard fashion editorials… Sit front row at Fashion Week with her by following her Front Row Diary on The LA Fashion Magazine. Louann brings you all the latest news from the runway and captivating moments from the strange, but marvelous world of fashion. In addition, she lets you peek behind the scenes at her conceptual fashion editorial shoots.
